Miguel Herrera
Deputy Manager, OPAGAC
Mr. Miguel Herrera joined OPAGAC in March 2015, as Deputy Manager. He obtained a degree in Biology (Zoology) at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), in 1989. Before joining OPAGAC Miguel worked for the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission as Head of Statistics, for over 15 years. During that time Miguel was in charge of IOTC Databases, IOTC capacity building activities, preparation of reports and datasets for the assessments of IOTC stocks, and other joint-tuna-RFMO related activities. Between 1994 and 1999 he was in charge of the Spanish Fisheries Office in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) and then Victoria (Seychelles) where he monitored the activities of Spanish purse seiners based in those countries. Between 1989 and 1994 Miguel worked for the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, participating in various research activities, in land and onboard research and fishing vessels.
