Actually, he represents IEO at the Spanish Office for Science and Technology (SOST) in Brussels.

His 20 years of research experience in marine aquaculture has been particularly devoted to the culture of large pelagic new finfish species such as Greater Amberjack and Bluefin tuna. Over the past 7 years he has conducted several researches on the later species in reproduction, nutrition, handling, and harvesting and meat quality assessment. As results, he has published several scientific papers and made a number of contributions at international events. In the period 2003-2006, he has been the coordinator of an European research project (REPRODOTT) aimed at controlling the reproduction of bluefin tuna in captivity, with the collaboration of nine partner institutions from 7 Mediterranean countries. This project has demonstrated that Bluefin tuna are able to mature and spawn in captive conditions and proved the efficacy of hormonal induction techniques to obtain viable eggs. Because of his close contact with other Australian, Japanese and North American scientists working in the same field, he knows well the worldwide state of art of tuna hatching in the world.
