Patrice Guillotreau

Since 1994, Patrice Guillotreau is professor of economics at the University of Nantes, France, where he teaches economics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (maritime and marine resource economics, Industrial Organization and Economic policies). His field of research concerns maritime economics and fisheries economics, with particular emphasis on the organization of seafood markets and risk management in social-ecological marine systems (including research on fishing rights, trade policy, market integration, consumption behavior, ecolabeling, auction price mechanisms, climate change impacts, risk assessment). He has coordinated several EU-funded projects and participated in many other international or national research projects, published more than 80 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, reports and books (including Mare Economicum, 2008, and a yearly Atlas in maritime economics). Between 2007 and 2009, he has been working at the Institute of Research for the Development (IRD) on the economics of tuna fisheries and markets, including a three-month period at the Seychelles Fishing Authority to study the impact of climate change on the Seychelles tuna economy, for the UNEP Convention on Climate Change. Since 2011, he is a member of the IMBER program and was co-chair of the CLIOTOP Socioeconomic Working Group (regional sub-project of IMBER studying the impact of climate change on tuna fisheries).
