Daroomalingum Mauree
Director of Fisheries of Mauritius and Chairman of the IOTC

Mr. Daroomalingum Mauree holds an Msc. (Distinction) in Fisheries Policy and Planning from the Hull International Fisheries Institute of the University of Hull, United Kingdom. He is the Director of Fisheries of Mauritius. He advises, formulates, develops and implements appropriate policy instruments for the management of fisheries in Mauritius. In his capacity as Director of Fisheries he jointly with the Administrative wing of the Ministry and the private sector, spearheads the policy orientation for the sustainable development of the Mauritius Seafood hub.

He successfully led the negotiations with the European Commission (EC) for the conclusion of a new Fisheries Partnership Agreement (FPA) with Mauritius. He has been instrumental in the elaboration of a Fisheries Master Plan for Mauritius, Rodrigues and the Outer Islands under the ACP FISH II programme.

The Contributions of Mr. Mauree are well recognised in the regional and international arena. Mr. Mauree is the Chairman of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) which promotes the conservation and optimum utilization of tuna stocks along with sustainable development of fisheries. He is also the Vice Chairman of the South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (SWIOFC).
